Why secondhand matters

Fashion with a past is becoming a bigger part of what comes next.

Secondhand style brings together the things shoppers already care about: a price that feels smart, something no one else is wearing, and the pleasure of finding the piece that makes an outfit feel more personal.

This page keeps the numbers separate from the sentiment. Every statistic below links to the report or public agency that published it, with the date shown beside the source. Market forecasts are labeled as forecasts, and the environmental figures use the latest U.S. federal textile data currently available.

Reading the data

What these figures do, and do not, say.

The resale-market figures are projections and survey findings from ThredUp’s 2026 Resale Report, developed with GlobalData. They describe the broader secondhand apparel market, not Froglilly Boutique’s own sales or inventory.

The household-spending figure comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and covers apparel and services together. The EPA textile figures refer to U.S. municipal solid waste in 2018, which remains the agency’s latest complete national textile dataset. Reuse is not included in the EPA generation estimate.

Methodology and sources

Built to be easy to check and cite.

This page draws from three named sources: the 2026 Resale Report from ThredUp and GlobalData, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Expenditure Survey, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s textile materials data. Figures are shown as published, with source dates beside each statistic.
